Season:
SalzburgerLand has long since made a name for itself as a paradise for mountain bikers. Unique challenges in combination with 3,000-meter giants, imposing high valleys, wild and romantic gorges, refreshing waterfalls and extensive well-maintained bike routes are a source of fascination for rookies and avid bikers alike.
Always guaranteed are those magnificent views of the grassy-green Imbachhorn, rising to Kitzsteinhorn Glacier high above, across Klammsee lake and out to beautiful Kaprun, and down to the shores of crystal-clear Zeller See.
Bikepark (Jump park and Pumptrack)
From a 4 m-high hill, a trail sets out with 2 drops and a banked curve, along with a pro and blue line, each with 3 kickers.
Next to it lays the Pumptrack – with 40 cm-high hills and banked turns.
The following open area with pallets, bridges, steps and other obstacles as needed, is used by the Outdoor-Center Kaprun guides for individualized bike and children’s coaching sessions.
Being created on 2,000 m2 of grounds close to the Alpine Coaster Maisiflitzer is the bikepark with drops, banked turns and kickers, on which teams and private riders get to train and have great fun.
Freeride Tip for Newbies:
As of last summer, bikers with little trail experience will be able to lean into their pedals on what used to be a real dark horse on the bike scene, "Secrets“ (a.k.a. the Bachlerweg). The start is next to the Maiskogel-Alm elev. 1,550 m (option to ride up with your bike on the Maiskogel cable car). Stay on the Astenweg (a gravel road), until you have conquered the first 4 hairpins. The natural trail that follows will kick bikers’ hearts into high gear. Multiple stream crossings demand a bit of skill and concentration. For experienced freeriders, things get extremely fast here. Nevertheless, the trail is a good ride for rookies and scores top points for fun. This breathtaking trail ends in Schneckenreith. This is followed by a laid-back roll-out, past emerald-green Klammsee lake, and back to the original starting point (car park for the Maiskogel cable car).
Freeride Tip for Pros:
The Jetzbachsteig, on the other hand, demands good control of your bike. The start is once again at the Maiskogel-Alm at 1,550 m (ride up with your bike on the Maiskogel cable car, if you want). The first section of this route takes you down a gravel road (the Astenweg), but then after the first switchback, turn off onto the natural trail. From here it’s steeply downhill via forest and meadow paths, spiced up with roots and rocks. When you reach around 1,100 m, you can take a short break and soak in the beautiful countryside. Afterwards, enjoy a relaxing ride along a wide cart path to Schneckenreith. This last stretch doesn’t demand a whole lot when it comes to technique and conditioning. Relaxed and loose, you will coast past the deep Klammsee and return to our original starting point (car park for the Maiskogel cable car).
