Cascades MTB Park - Pietermaritzburg

The Cascades Mountain Bike site has been the venue for 3 x UCI MTB World Cup events already and has a reputation as being safe and convenient and is one of the few venues countrywide that lies within the city boundaries with great facilities on its doorstep. Apart from these benefits, it is the only Triple course in the country and the only course that has international accreditation for all its discipline courses.

Pietermaritzburg is 12 km from the southernmost tip of the Midlands Meander which covers Hilton, Merrivale, Howick, Curry’s Post, Karkloof Mount West and some of Rosetta. The riding on many of the multitude of scenic (though public) gravel roads in the area is especially suitable to recreational riders and family groups.

South Africa’s World Champion Downhiller, Greg Minnaar, was raised and rode around here before taking on the world. So, Pietermaritzburg is clearly an excellent place to mountain bike although there are no real official trails.
